Deepavali,the festival of Lights

Home deocrated with Lights

As soon as the Durga puja ends,the planning for the festival of Deepavali starts. Deepavali is the festival of lights and Diyas (Oil lamps),but in most part of India,almost every part of India celebrates it with Fire Crackers and smalls Bombs.Though it is forbidden by the Government to use it socially as its sound is so loud that it directly irritates and effects on Small babies and Old age peoples,who can not bear it and can cause heart attacks and much more if it is not used carefully,but still it is used widely.
            Deepavali is celebrated in the month of October or November as per the date prescribed by the Hindu Panchang's(Calendar) reading.Though these months are the arrival of winter season,but the cold breeze and cold weather can not be felt because of the heat generated by the crackers and lights.

Rangoli

          But the best part of deepavali,that I like is not the crackers,but the cleaning up of the house and decorating it with lights and Rangoli ,as it is said to be the arrival of Goddess Laxmi,the Goddess of Wealth.These rituals are to welcome the Goddess to come home and keep us and the society wealthy.While in the decoration of home,Rangoli infront of the Gods Prayer place is really a tough job.Rangoli is widely used in south India for any auspicious occasion but at my home no body affords it apart from Deepawali because of the hard work and concentration that it needs.

         It is made up of different colored materials like wheat flour,Maida,Flour of grams and Abir of different colors.But the toughest part is deciding the shape,size and design of the Rangoli and then making it look good with Diyas. It needs really good imagination power and creativity.But this the best part of Deepavali apart from Lights. Whats your take about Deepavali??
